In home photography is exciting and appealing to lots of photographers, but it can feel intimidating to find confidence for shooting with so many unknowns. What happens if you walk into a home and it’s a complete mess? How will you create in a space with few windows? What if the style is totally outdated? Can you handle it? Can you still make beautiful, heartwarming photos? That’s what we’re tackling and preparing you for with these 4 tips for in-home sessions.
A few years ago, I asked in a photography Facebook group what everyone’s favorite thing was about in-home sessions. Someone responded with – I know this is shallow, but I only like them if they’re a well decorated home, have interesting architecture, or have great light – otherwise not so much.
The truth is that even when you’re showing your best and favorite work, you may get hired by people who you don’t vibe with. They might have homes that are not your “aesthetic” or are “boring” or “tough.” So what happens then? How do you still given them the same vibes that your brand is known for, the same quality images, no matter what?
In this episode, I’m sharing 4 tips to take with you on your in-home sessions to create inspiration and feel inspired even in an uninspiring space.
Topics we touch on:
- Why it’s important to be able to shoot in diverse environments, even when they’re not your favorite.
- How to find the golden nuggets
- Ideas for using the outdoors spaces you have available at home
- How to creativity utilize your angles
