Being a good boss.

If it's all work and no play, no rest, no… anything else… what's the point?

If the job perks are flexibility and creative fulfillment and unlimited sick leave but you're not taking advantage of them…

I like to work because I like my job a lot.

But the past few weeks have held lots of company followed by sickness followed by walking in a parade, a choir concert, 3 snow days and a delayed open, and I'll be honest - there's not a lot of work happening.

But… I HAVE laughed really hard watching my kids ramp their sleds off the hills in our backyard and taking turns holding onto Aaron down the tracks.

I've made lots of hot cocoa for lots of kids in my neighborhood and watched Elf as a family and made 3 batches of cookies (only one of them burned).

I've had slow mornings enjoying coffee and actual conversation with my husband while our kids miraculously played well together.

I stayed up last night chatting with my best friend since 2nd grade who drove down with her baby for the night to volley my kids questions over a a semi-chaotic dinner and hang out in sweatpants drinking red wine.

I think that these perks are a big deal to grab onto.

The lack of routine in December is making me slightly cookoo, but I also feel really happy about the fact that I don't have a boss breathing down my neck about deadlines and taking too much time off for my kids.

We'll talk more next week (when perhaps time is a little more available).
