A playful outdoor family session with 3 kids in Charlottesville
This outdoor family session with 3 kids under 5 was full of energy and absurdity as only you could expect. I’ve worked with this family since their oldest was one, and each season they add more kids and our sessions get a little more wild. We’ve shot in winter, summer, and fall, in their home and outdoors. Every time is different and magical in its own way, and that’s the beauty of making family photos on a regular basis.
Every session can evolve into whatever it needs to be without the pressure of it being the one and only time you’ll ever have family photos, right?!
This was a field and creek session that stayed in one open spot of the field for the entire 30 minutes, and still got so much variety simply through play. We rolled around the grass and embraced the wild nature of 3 kids under 5. These parents were so easy-going and willing to play along, tickle, and chase to keep the momentum going.
I think so often we overestimate what’s required for a successful shoot, when really, the most important factor is simply a willingness to unravel and enjoy the moment.
These images are a few favorites from our time together. They feel like an explosion of love and beauty that will only get richer with time.
